History

Thanks to the Mission pour le développement de l’innovation participative (MIP), which promotes innovative projects for the French army, RXR Protect and Médecin Chef Nicolas, who is also a researcher in war trauma at the IRBA (Institut de recherche biomédicale des armées), were able to launch a study into the problem of rear effect, a problem that has become very important with the use of flexible and rigid body armor.

On impact, the vest deforms backwards, transmitting a large wave of energy. This phenomenon can cause very serious internal trauma (burst organs, haemorrhaging, etc.) and generally results in loss of consciousness, significantly reducing the chances of survival in what is by definition a hostile environment.

To minimize this rear effect, a material is placed under the ballistic protection (between it and the wearer’s body) to diffuse and absorb all or a large part of the impact energy.
